Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development

A global partnership to foster statistical information about the information societies

The Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development is made up of a total of 13 international organizations. It is an international, multi-stakeholder initiative to improve the availability and quality of ICT data and indicators, particularly in developing countries. It was launched in June 2004, on the occasion of UNCTAD XI. It's first Steering Committee was led by Susan Teltscher (then UNCTAD), Esperanza Magpantay (ITU), and myself (at UN ECLAC).

The Partnership created a wealth of important statistical meta-data, in publications such as:

Partnership, U. N. (2008). The Global Information Society: a Statistical View. Geneva: ITU, OECD, UNCTAD, UNESCO Institute for Statistics, UN Regional Commissions (UNECLAC, UNESCWA, UNESCAP, UNECA), World Bank, EUROSTAT.
Partnership, U. N. (2005). Measuring ICT: the Global Status of ICT Indicators. Geneva: ITU, OECD, UNCTAD, UNESCO Institute for Statistics, UN Regional Commissions (UNECLAC, UNESCWA, UNESCAP, UNECA), World Bank, EUROSTAT.

Several of the statistics on the access and use of digital technologies that have been harmonized by the Partnership have been adopted by the United Nations Statistical Commission and recommended for global collection.
