Q&A: How data will revolutionise global governance
In the run-up to 2015 and the new Sustainable Development Goals, debate is intensifying around big and open data and its role in fostering — or threatening — social justice, economic prosperity and respect for human rights. In this podcast, Martin Hilbert, economic affairs officer at the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and formerly ECLAC’s Information Society Programme coordinator, reflects on some of the challenges around this complex and controversial topic.
The interview was recorded at ‘Making it Count: Big data, the open revolution and public engagement’, a conference organised by SciDev.Net, IDRC, and UKCDS in London, United Kingdom, on 24 February.
